Fixing Sling TV Streaming Issues on Xbox One

The prospect of a subscription-based cable service is a blessing for people stuck in long term cable contracts. Sling TV is one to provide quality program streaming at reasonable prices. Most of the people these days have high speed internet anyway, so streaming television is a viable option for the households.

You can use Sling TV on a number of devices, be it your computer, Android, iPhone, Roku, Fire TV, Xbox or any other streaming device. In an interesting discovery, I found that even if all your streaming devices stay at relatively the same distance from the wireless router, the Xbox One application buffers and stutters more frequently than any of its counterpart. The application is simply not as stale on Xbox One as it is on Android, Roku or computers.

After an in-debt research, discussions with Sling TV support staff and other tech experts, we have identified the issue. And in order to help you with the problem as well, here is what you need to do in order to get rid of the issue.

Refresh Sling TV

The first thing you need to do, if your Sling TV application doesn’t work on Xbox One, is refresh the application. You can refresh the application by signing out and then signing back in. If you do not know how to do that, here are the directions.

l Press the ‘menu’ key on the remote

l Go to settings

l Select Sign out

l Sign in again

Re-install Sling TV

If refreshing the application doesn’t resolve the issue, you can try re-installing the application on your device. First you will have to uninstall the application. Then download and install the application again. This will take care of all the intermitted and data issues. Simply,

l Press Xbox button on controller to go ‘Home’

l Go to My games and apps

l Highlight the content that you want to uninstall

l Press the Menu button on your controller

l Select ‘Manage Game’ or ‘Manage App’

l Press the Menu button on your controller again

l Select Uninstall

l Turn off the TV and Xbox for at least minutes

l Reinstall the app

l Go to the Xbox one app store

l Enter Sling TV in the search bar

l Select the application

l Download the app

l Open the app

l Sign in using your Sling TV username and password

Check Bandwidth

In case that fails to resolve the issue as well, you can go to the settings to check the Sling TV Bandwidth limitations. Simply

l Go to Sling TV Settings

l Go to settings

l Bandwidth limitations

l Select Medium or Low Quality

l Bandwidth limitations

Quit OneGuide Live TV

If you are OneGuide to watch TV on your Xbox, especially with its in built DVR support, it could be the source of your problems. The application is troublesome when it comes to Xbox One, especially for the wireless networks. According to findings, the DVR can interfere with the Sling TV streaming, even from the background. Once you fix your Sling TV settings, you can do the following:

l Press the Xbox button on your controller

l Select the OneGuide app

l Press the Menu button on your controller

l Select Quit to close the OneGuide and its DVR capability
